Published in www.irreverentview.com After much hand-wringing about the election results, Republicans turn toward the task of rebuilding the GOP as a brand voters will trust. Many pundits ask, “Where does the GOP go from here?” I think the better question is, “Who will lead the GOP and in which direction?” Pundits have already started looking toward the 2012 election while apparently ignoring the importance of the off-year 2010 elections and the redistricting which follows. If we ignore the redistricting process that will be in place for 2012, the GOP will certainly find itself in the minority throughout the next decade. |

I’m often asked by friends, colleagues or members of the press to tell them what advice I would give if I were involved with Sen. McCain’s campaign.
Here is what I would tell McCain.
First, with 28 days until Election Day, all is not lost. The economy is bad, the debates were bad and the campaign has been bad. The good news is, you are running against an opponent who has still not made the sale to the American people.
There is a flaw with Barrack Obama that swing voters have identified that you have not. Find out what it is and exploit it. I think you are getting close by calling Obama risky, but you haven’t articulated why.
Is he risky because Democrats effectively socialized the failed mortgage industry? Or, is it that Obama wants to socialize health care which will also fail?
In one of Obama’s commercials he says that “real change” would equal “shared responsibility.” Didn’t we just share a ton or responsibility in the mortgage socialization that led to our current economic crisis? |

Many in the news media and certainly Whoopi Goldberg are trying to appeal to voters after the “Palin Bounce” by trying to revert to the campaign that won Barrack Obama the Democratic Nomination for President – racism.
Yes, there is but one racist in this year’s Presidential race and it is Sen. Obama. Where are the cries to condemn Whoopi Goldberg’s comments when she asks about a McCain Presidency, “Should I worry about being a slave again?” I hate to tell you Whoopi, but you’ve only been a slave to a horrible career as an actress. |

In many ways, Barrack’s big gamble paid off but his speech fell flat.
Some of the issues that the Obama campaign had to overcome speaking in front of such a large crowd included the crowd appearing “cultish,” — which it didn’t; applause lines being too long, — which they weren’t; and whether speakers would feel the need to scream into the microphone, — which they did. One thing that was sorely missing at the end of the speech were the balloons. Normally, people are popping, hitting, and playing with balloons at the end of the speech. This group looked lost when they all went on stage absent any balloons. |

We’ve all gotten emails suggesting that we “not buy gas next Friday.” The email suggests that big oil companies will get the point because their sales may dip that day and reduce their prices the following day or two. The two obvious problems with such a scheme is that 1. People no longer pay much attention to those crazy emails and 2. It doesn’t reduce consumption at all.
Why don’t we Americans take the high gas prices into our own hands and get everyone’s attention including the government, oil, employers and fellow Americans? Call in sick on Monday, July 7, and leave your car parked in the driveway. |
